[ the feed opens to julius in the garden, standing beneath a fruit tree - a young man in his early twenties, with blond hair and clear golden eyes. he looks a tad tired, with dark shadows under his eyes - but for those who knew him from before, he appears to be in better condition than they last saw him.

notably, he wasn't at the icebreaker. but - those are minor details. ]

Hello, everyone. My name is Julius.

[ he gestures to the greenery behind him with a sweep of his hand, a slight smile tugging at his lips ]

I'm interested in developing the garden - we may need to upkeep it ourselves in the future, and I would imagine the relevant skills would be necessary in other worlds for ensuring a consistent food supply. However, I don't have much knowledge on cultivation myself. If we work together, we'll have a better chance at succeeding.

[ his expression settles back into its usual quiet seriousness now, as appropriate for something more dangerous ]

I was a soldier back home, and I used to teach drills to my teammates. In the interest of keeping our skills sharp, I would also like to propose some sparring sessions and other exercises.

[ a pause, before: ]

[ remembering his manners, daylight crouches down and hope its enough that looking up isn't too much of a strain for julius.

meddy finally catches up with daylight, angrily beeping at him while the nestle in the crook of his neck to take a quick break for themselves while daylight begins to look around the garden and examine its contents. ]

Wow. [ it's amazing what can impress daylight. being from earth. having a power more interesting than his. a garden full of life and promise. ] ... This is amazing. Definitely never seen some of these plants before. Do we know which ones are vegetables and fruits here?

[ his power lies deeper than just alluding to his love for nature. he has become one with nature - and while that seems like a romantic notion, it isn't; because of the true nature of the will of the earth. the earth is indifferent, unrelenting, driving its children to evolve above all else. ]

I know a few that look like they're from Earth. Apples, oranges, the like. Maybe some from the carrot family, too. [ he tilts his head, slightly embarrassed ] I think you might have a better chance at identifying them than I do. I haven't seen many before.

Hey! That's a lot of you identified right now. That's awesome. [ he laughs in what he hopes sounds like encouragement, trying to make things casual.

a lot of his knowledge comes from tending to flowers and plants, really. they can stumble about trying to figure out what's really edible or not together. though, as daylight takes in the sights before him, he notices some things thanks to his time with gardenia and the others. ] I see more leafy greens than anything else.

What else... What else... Oh! Will probably need to break it down by the five subgroups of vegetables but I think we have some herbs too. Maybe some spots can be used for broccoli and peas if we're lucky enough to get those of if they're here already.

[ there's... a slight pause after daylight delivers his compliment, a blink written on julius' expression - but it resolves nevertheless, a faint bashfulness tinting his smile. even after a few months, it's still unfamiliar - being told, so easily.

but!! ]

I only know those from books, so I'm not completely sure. [ his world had fallen to ruin, after all. ] That sounds promising. What are the five subgroups, though?

[ with ease, daylight begins listing off the subgroups from the top of his processor, recalling the names with ease. auntie laura stressed the important of healthy eating and stuff when he was still under her care.

he may not have needed it back then but since he's gotta eat now, it would be pretty useful to him and others. ]

We have dark greens, red and oranges, beans and peas, starchy, and the very creative 'other' since that's where you just lump the others that don't fit in any other category. [ he tilts his head to the side, examining the garden once more. ] I think... I think it's possible we can do all five here, yeah. We'll need to section of specific patches for specific plants and stuff but its' definitely doable!

[ he's reminded once again of what he read in the archives, once upon a time - of things that were beautiful before the aragami came. so in a way, he's been transported back into the past, a time where such things still existed.

I see. Do you know how large each should be? We can label the sections.

[ he trots off to one side and returns with a large stick that they can draw lines in the soil with, he thinks. ]

You might want to get another option from someone else, just in case, but I think-

[ cue daylight surprisingly taking charge. he confidently begins pointing out the best spots for certain plants and herbs, going as far to suggest how many should be planted in a particular patch.

but quickly as it had come, daylight's certainty evaporates and he looks back to julius, cheeks turning a strange shade of faint blue as a hand flies to the back of his head to rub it anxiously. ]

... that's what I think at least, I gotta stress. I'm not the best in gardening and I just learned from my Auntie Laura who watched my mom so it's a weird game of Tin Can Communication.

[ it's a lot of information, so julius just nods along as daylight gives instructions. it all seems very logical to him, so he doesn't have a reason to doubt that daylight is misinformed. ]

It's good. I think it'll work.

[ he debates whether to pat the robot youth, but his shoulder is a bit out of reach and he's sure patting his leg isn't a good idea. ]

I should write this down somewhere later too, so we won't forget.

[ daylight is rather ticklish when it comes to surprise pats so julius and day managed to avoid a catastrophe right there and then.

If you want, I can send the info over through the device too! [ he raises his arm up, showing the device in question. ] That way you can keep it somewhere easy to store it.

[ it's clear daylight wants to say something with how he bites his bottom lip and scuffs the ground with the tip of his foot but, for some reason, he doesn't want to spit it out ]

[ there's the thought of the juvenile network coming up his throat, but he cans the words back down once he notices the fidgeting in daylight's expression. ]

Thank you. [ and then: ] What's up? You can tell me what's on your mind.

[ he could have said 'is something wrong' but things being wrong isn't something he wants to deal with the implications of right now. ]

[ rubbing the back of his neck, daylight laughs nervously as he tries to gather the courage to say what's on his processor.

usually he would be upfront about what he wanted but this? is a little awkward for him, so the words come out in starts and stops. ] Well... I was wondering if you'd be open to the idea of... you know... flowers? In the garden?

... I can take care of them. I'm really, really good at it and I'll make sure they won't be a trouble to the vegetables and fruits! Honest.

[ .... that's a lot more innocent than what he's been fearing. ]

Of course. Flowers are beautiful.

[ for more reasons than one. they have been gifts to him, too. so he'll allow his smile to brighten a bit more ]

We can always make room for such things.

We can?!

[ daylight looks so excited to hear this, the look of uncertainty quickly wiped away with a big smile and an expression of pure joy and excitement.

it's been what? almost forty years or more since he properly got to tend a flower? it'll be nice to do that again. sinking his hands in the soil and helping coax something beautiful and fragile to life. ] I promise you won't regret this! I swear!

These will be the best flowers ever. The prettiest, nicest, bestest smelling flowers in the whole wide universe we're in! [ he wishes he had kept a seed packet on him at all times. it would be nice to have some soldier's kisses here. or maybe solar lilumes. ]

[ perhaps it's a little ironic, for a robot to be so in love with flowers. but maybe, that's an expression of their humanity too - he thinks back to the first android he had befriended, one who had given him a flower as well. ]

I'm sure they will be.

[ daylight's heart is enough. ]

I'll help. [ maybe, it would be a good time to try out his powers again ]

[ the winglets on daylight's back shoot up so high and fast that it causes his poor back struts to ache.

it's so worth it in his opinion. no one on the lornful light except the small pool of usual suspects expressed the same in gardening. let alone a desire to help daylight out in his futile attempts to try and nurture a garden on one of the ship's biomes. ]

Wow! Thanks so much! [ he tries to tone down his excited yelling, remember he is now big in a lot of ways thanks to being the only galateion here. ] What are your favourite types of flowers?

[ he has to wonder why daylight is so enthusiastic. sure, there is the youth's passion, but it seemed to him that daylight considered it rare. maybe there wasn't anyone around to help him garden, just like how julius was in the past. that means they'd make a good team. ]

I like all of them. [ he chuckles, brief but sincere. ] But if I had to pick... anything white, maybe?

[ it's the colour of the first one he was ever offered. ]

For what it's worth, that answer is the totally correct one for me. Anyone who doesn't like all the flowers ever would be way more suspicious. [ his winglets wiggle at the silly joke of his, daylight clearly finding it more amusing than he really should have the right to.

that said-! ] That's a good choice of colour. A lot of flowers come in that colour but...

[ hmmm. he's trying to remember not only the types of flowers that are white or can come in white but what their requirements are. ]

... but I think white carnations and hydrangeas would be a good choice given the soil and space we have available here. [ he sighs, placing his hands behind his back while he begins to rock back and forth on the balls of his feet. ] Really wish I kept a seed packet on me. It'll be nice to have mom's favourite flowers here too.

[ jokes are good. the fact that they can have such lighthearted banter is good - it's a far cry from the terse atmosphere of shehui and the uncertainty that it brought. talking with daylight is very refreshing, in a way; he is childlike and filled with wonder, a reminder of what he could never be.

.... mother? perhaps, he had meant his maker, given that he's a robot. julius raises his eyebrows a little ]

What does she like?

[ daylight looks excited to talk about his mom, his winglets fluttering from excitement now. ]

Her favourite were these flowers known as Amorgignit Amorem but they're better known as Soldier's Kisses where I'm from. [ now on a roll, daylight begins to gesture, wildly so, while he speaks with such a speed that his words, now and then, skip and stumble over each other. ] The flowers are, like, super pretty! They come in the shades of blues and whites or reds and golds and smell really nice when they bloom during the summer. They kind of look like clouds with how soft and fluffy the petals are and how tightly packed the flowers are together. They're super sturdy since they're from the deserts and-

... Hahaha. Wow. Sorry about that. [ he rubs the back of his neck, his face turning a strange faint shade of blue. is that his way of blushing? ] It's not every day I get to talk about my mom, you know? Sorry if that was weird or anything.

[ maybe if he closes his eyes, he could imagine this sort of thing.

.... it's nice, though, how daylight speaks of his mother. if anything, it reminds him of how bitterly he had hated his own. ]

It's not. [ he keeps his expression even. ] She sounds like a kind person. Maybe, we can find those flowers when we go visiting other worlds. Or an equivalent.

[ something along the lines of him not wishing another to befall the same fate as his own. perhaps he's jealous, but he's learned to discard those feelings long ago ]

You think we can? Oh man that'll be awesome! [ his winglets are aflutter again. this time in joy at the prospect of coming across the flowers his mom loved so much and getting a chance to grow them again.

he'll never trade meddy for anything else in the world right now, no way, but there are times he'll do something for a packet of seeds from dust tumbles. ]

That'll be so neat if it happens! The Lornful Light has her flower garden biomes but I'm not allowed in them. [ he tries to act casual about this part but from the quick frown that comes and goes shows it does bother him. ] It's said to be one of the prettiest Creations of Nature and it'll be nice to try and recreate it here. I bet it'll be more awesome with your help!

[ his first thought is of the reason why daylight would not be allowed into the garden. perhaps, it was because of his size - but that begs the question of how diverse the people in his world were.

so, with a smile: ]
