video.
[ when the feed comes on, riza's expression is tense. controlled. she's looking straight into the camera. there's an air of professionalism to her as she speaks, but that's to be expected.
she's lived through enough warzones, calamities, and nightmares to know how this goes. ]
My name is Riza Hawkeye. I know some of you, but-
[ not important. she blinks herself out of that. roy was always better at this, wasn't he? okay, breathe. ]
We need to regroup. I'm sure everyone has felt some part of what is going on, but things are getting out of hand. We can't turn on each other at a time like this, not with whatever is happening down below. I know a lot of us are scared, but if we're going to get through this, we need to pull together.
[ a beat, and then she exhales. riza doesn't look fantastic, honestly. she hasn't slept in who knows how long, and with everything going on around the ship?
but she's trying, that has to mean something, right? ]
Anyone who needs help, come find me in the lounge. I know basic first aid and can see what I can do. If anyone has any kind of healing abilities that are working? I can help with those too. I'm trying to collect what supplies we have, but help is appreciated.
I'll be in the Lounge if anyone needs to find me.
[ and then the feed cuts.
ooc timeline wise! this is happening semi-post the event log but pre the wrap-up log! meaning that people who went down in the first log can be back up, but all the dead bodies haven't made it up. she is open for network stuff but also if you just want to action meeting her in the lounge......feel free.
also.....no one has told her about roy yet so. that is open. c: ]

We got split up down there, but I was lucky enough to have a healer.
I still wouldn't mind some company and a slightly less ominous setting. So the Lounge sounds ideal. I'll come see you and you can fill me in on what happened up here while we were down below.
[He hesitates and then he asks, because she didn't mention...]
Have you heard from Roy yet?
[audio]
I'm glad you made it back. [ and the sentiment is genuine, even if there's still a bit of tension there. a hint of now if only roy could too. but she doesn't give voice to it (quite yet). ]
I'm not sure if it's any less ominous, but we're trying to make it more comfortable. And you're definitely welcome. [ she would be nodding, if this had any video. instead, there's definitely a hint of professionalism to it. ] There's some important information, too. Images and videos recovered, that sort of thing. I'll fill you in when you arrive.
[ riza catches the hesitation, and nearly remarks on it when the question follows. then it's time for a hesitation of her own, a moment where she feels her chest tighten, before she takes the effort to exhale. to push the air out of her chest, and the tightness down into her gut.
it's alright, it's going to be alright, trust him. ]
Not yet, no. [ a beat. ] Have you?
[audio]
[It's still on this cursed ship, but right now it's the best alternative. He'll take it. Besides, they need to share some information anyways. He's glad he opted for audio though, Riza can't see him bite his lip. He's pretty certain he only survived down there because he was with the right group of people. Sometimes battles boiled down to things like that out of your control. Still, if Roy hasn't made it back up yet...
No, he can't accept that.]
I haven't. He's probably going to make some stupid showy entrance.
[He almost sounds like he believes that.]
I'll be there soon. Sounds like we have a lot to discuss.
[She can probably hear his footsteps as he makes his way in that direction. It probably isn't even worth it to reply since he'll make his appearance in the lounge a few seconds later.]
[audio]
[ he doesn't need to voice his worries for their presence to be felt, and it isn't like riza doesn't know how war usually goes. the longer it takes for roy to make it up top, the less likely it was for him to make it at all.
but she can't find it in herself to give up on him. not yet.
so instead, she gives a huff of a laugh. something tired, but still fond. ]
That does sound like him, doesn't it?
[ she has to believe it. she has to.
and riza does open her mouth to respond once more - something along the lines of i'll be here and stay safe. but it's just about then that she hears the foot steps, that the door opens, and that riza looks up to see him enter. she gives him a tired kind of smile from across the room, standing from where she'd been settled into one of the chairs. ]
action
He attempts a smile in kind, but it is tired and frayed, not even touching his eyes as it might have before they'd come on this damned mission. Instead he drops it and gestures for her to return to a seat.]
It's good to see you, there's no denying that much. If you don't mind I'm going to take a seat.
[He drops into a nearby chair. Taking a moment to rest his eyes because this place isn't going to have something leap out of the wall and try to kill him.]
Is there anything to eat or drink?
[He's not necessarily hungry or thirsty...but just looking for something more normal to occupy himself with.]
action
it's almost a nice feeling - something familiar and warm to hold onto - but reality seeps in not moments after and pulls a shiver out of her. the worry for roy heightens, but she swallows it back and nods, sitting back where she had been just moments before. ]
I'm glad you made it back. [ and as he drops into a nearby chair, riza leans forward - grabbing a box of some kind and holding it out to him when he asks his next question. ]
The same stuff we've been eating since we got here, but yes. [ so the box basically has that space goo and a bottle of water for him, if he wants it. ]
It works, whatever it is. [ she means the food, really, and it's a poor attempt at a lighter tone, but she sits back in the chair anyway. ]
no subject
It'll do for now. It's one of the better receptions I've received recently. And this food goo might be a little better than what we were eating on Struxta.
[He takes a moment to enjoy this, but he doesn't stay quiet for long. He knows they came to do more than just exchange pleasantries.]
So...where do you want to begin. A story for a story maybe?
no subject
It makes me miss Akvos, honestly. Even if I got sick of fish, at least it was something substantial.
[ and the moment is appreciated. even if it can't last long, some semblance of normalcy before they have to get to business. but just like maes knows, it can't last forever, and she nods. ]
We spent most of the time up here just trying to decipher the messages. The alien language was harder to understand than we thought, but we managed to get three of the messages Zari found in the bridge.
[ she doesn't sound particularly...excited about them, but she looks over to maes anyway, just checking to make sure he's following. ]
no subject
Best to focus on the present concerns.]
Messages? I'm guessing they didn't hold much good news or a quick explanation about how to handle what we found down below on this ship.
no subject
There was some information in them, but I don't know how much of it was good. [ a breath, then she exhales. ] One of them was a video of the monster itself. Another was a ship log detailing the...well. Detailing what has been happening to the rest of us so far. Nothing that we didn't know already, so that one wasn't as useful.
And the third- [ riza rubs at the bridge of her nose, frustrated but also exhausted. ] It talked about shadows, like the monster could use them for something? And focused a lot on the work-out room. Something about the zero gravity, but it wasn't clear why.
no subject
[He listens to the information. He can understand her exhaustion now, her concern when posting to the network. He considers it and combines it with his own experiences.]
It's certainly an ugly thing and in person it has...I don't know...I guess some kind of effect on you as well. It's like an embodiment of fear and all it wanted to do down there was mess with our heads. The rest of your information checks out. Shiro and I encountered it fairly early on. It could use the shadows to hide and move in, sometimes it even seemed like it could manipulate them, but that could have just been another way of messing with our heads. When we tried to illuminate the halls it really freaked out on us, so it could also just be a strong aversion to light...like some cave dwelling or nocturnal creatures are.
[He starts to rub at his chin. He hasn't had a chance to clean up his facial hair in awhile and its definitely gotten thicker. Maybe he'll find a moment to clean up after their conversation.]
I do know that we witnessed it jump through walls and locked doors several times. Maybe...maybe if we got it into a place without gravity we could keep it from reaching the walls. That might make it easier to pin down at any rate, since otherwise every time we tried to get it cornered it would just slip away again.
