So.

[ it is a public message, to the network, that pops up on the circle's watches and roy looks Less Than Pleased (tm) with the sudden state of affairs. the weather in the temple is absolutely out of control, there are apparently weird cakes appearing in the kitchens, and the fighting ring has turned into a magical court. great.

so, that may be the reason why roy's tone is particularly clipped, or even frustrated. but he seems methodical, in his words, and he is sitting at a table with a notebook, a glass of water, and a weird looking lizard on the table that has an odd rainbow-shift to the scales.

( ignore the lizard. it seems roy is. ) ]

The Circle is currently compromised of people of a variety of talents; soldiers, magicians, teenagers . . . all of us have particular skills to contribute to the cause of whatever it is we're meant to do here. I know quite a few people [ like maes, and barabas ] have been keeping track of various magical powers that we have been gifted, and organized some semblance of structure -- all of which is necessary. But we have to acknowledge what happened to Akvos.

[ he pauses, there. ]

Astoria has not been entirely clear with the Circle on what our purpose is. That may be an innocent error, or a purposeful move to win our trust. I'm not here to argue the merits of whether or not we should trust her, but we have no choice but to participate in whatever world she sends us to. Whether we like it or not, we are stuck there until she brings us back, and we have some opportunity to assist whoever is there. We cannot depend on her to figure out what to do in order to prevent another Akvos, or -- it seems, another El Minha, given King Kathashun is no longer in his own world.

[ roy taps the pen against the table once. ]

I don't have any solution as to what we did right, or wrong, or whether or not it was our fault in the first place. But I want to begin the conversation to work to prevent it again, and seeing as Astoria is either not willing or not capable of explaining herself at the moment, we need to learn to work without her. What are we missing? What do we need to work on? And what can we do in order to be more organized before our next world?

[ and, finally, roy feeds the lizard one (1) piece of lettuce, which it lazily seems to chew on. ]

I'm of a mind we need to organize fighters, healers, and transporters, but I'm open to ideas and suggestions -- and questions, about previous worlds to those who were not there to experience them. I have been to El Minha, Struxta, and Akvos. And I'm certain "older" members of the Circle will be happy to share their experiences, too.

Well don't look at me, I don't know if I've ever seen "real" organization before. I mean, I can strategize, but coming up with a plan and implementing it are two different things. Nobody ever listened to me. And why should any of us listen to each other, when it comes to the next world or the one after or the one after that? Our own experiences aren't always going to qualify us to make judgments in other planes of existence. You need a team, or to convince everyone to communicate and offer help each jump.

[ It sounds like a logistical mess, to him, but also the best thing to do. Damnit. ]

...it's nice to meet you, too, Roy. We could've picked a more fun topic, but hey. This one's necessary.

It's almost as if . . .

[ and roy trails off, purposefully contemplatively, his expression melding from a soft smile to really thinking . . . ]

. . . our differences in experiences, combined, may prove to be a better idea than all of us arbitrarily deciding what to do on our own, culminating in a roll of the dice at whether or not we succeed.

[ he's in agreement with you, York, but he can't resist the tease. ]

[ York blinks, then shakes his head a little in amusement. ]

I get it, same page, sure. But the question is how to get people to communicate and listen and organize. Is there a secret to it nobody ever told me?

[ Because seriously, he thought he made good sense but every time, man. ]

How's your roster looking so far?

[ a quick upward curve of his lips, at that, and roy shrugs a little. ]

I've found every group of people needs a leader, and even the most dysfunctional, disorganized, messy group of people can come together to form an excellent, cohesive team if said leader exists.

[ his own team is A Disaster (tm) most of the time, but they all work well together because they have one common goal, and one common purpose. roy trusts them all with his life, and they trust him, as their leader. it works because of all the moving pieces, not just roy himself. ]

The problem here is that we have quite a few leaders, all with different ideas, and we all have to learn how to coalesce them into a singular purpose, which should be surviving whatever idiotic adventure we get involuntarily thrust into next.

[ he pauses. ]

But we do have quite a few people with similar abilities, in terms of support staff, combat, and transport. I think I'm going to put together a list that people can respond to and access, assuming our communication devices work in each world, for every jump. That way the list can constantly update, depending on when people leave the Circle.

So in this case maybe not a leader but some kind of... coalition's the best word I guess, yeah. And every leader has their strengths, not just their ideas. It might work well, with this many people to organize... if it's not a complete mess of arguing every time we need to decide something.

[ Kinda hard to tell from here. York considers Roy for another moment. ]

What would you say your strength is?

[ roy opens his mouth to agree, with York, when he asks the next question. and he pauses, arching his eyebrows before he considers the question carefully, allowing a small laugh to escape. ]

My strength, well . . . hard to say, I think. I'm somewhat out of my element, here.

[ it's a partial lie; roy is absolutely in his element, bringing people together, forcing a conversation, getting people to volunteer to help for the greater good . . . he's good at people, and roy can recognize that quality within himself, but he certainly wouldn't say that out loud about himself. he would leave that to his friends. ]

But I think my greatest quality would be seeing other's greatest qualities in themselves. I like potential, and I recognize it easily.

[ he'll just go with that, for now. the humblest of humblebrags. ]
