So.
[ it is a public message, to the network, that pops up on the circle's watches and roy looks Less Than Pleased (tm) with the sudden state of affairs. the weather in the temple is absolutely out of control, there are apparently weird cakes appearing in the kitchens, and the fighting ring has turned into a magical court. great.
so, that may be the reason why roy's tone is particularly clipped, or even frustrated. but he seems methodical, in his words, and he is sitting at a table with a notebook, a glass of water, and a weird looking lizard on the table that has an odd rainbow-shift to the scales.
( ignore the lizard. it seems roy is. ) ]
The Circle is currently compromised of people of a variety of talents; soldiers, magicians, teenagers . . . all of us have particular skills to contribute to the cause of whatever it is we're meant to do here. I know quite a few people [ like maes, and barabas ] have been keeping track of various magical powers that we have been gifted, and organized some semblance of structure -- all of which is necessary. But we have to acknowledge what happened to Akvos.
[ he pauses, there. ]
Astoria has not been entirely clear with the Circle on what our purpose is. That may be an innocent error, or a purposeful move to win our trust. I'm not here to argue the merits of whether or not we should trust her, but we have no choice but to participate in whatever world she sends us to. Whether we like it or not, we are stuck there until she brings us back, and we have some opportunity to assist whoever is there. We cannot depend on her to figure out what to do in order to prevent another Akvos, or -- it seems, another El Minha, given King Kathashun is no longer in his own world.
[ roy taps the pen against the table once. ]
I don't have any solution as to what we did right, or wrong, or whether or not it was our fault in the first place. But I want to begin the conversation to work to prevent it again, and seeing as Astoria is either not willing or not capable of explaining herself at the moment, we need to learn to work without her. What are we missing? What do we need to work on? And what can we do in order to be more organized before our next world?
[ and, finally, roy feeds the lizard one (1) piece of lettuce, which it lazily seems to chew on. ]
I'm of a mind we need to organize fighters, healers, and transporters, but I'm open to ideas and suggestions -- and questions, about previous worlds to those who were not there to experience them. I have been to El Minha, Struxta, and Akvos. And I'm certain "older" members of the Circle will be happy to share their experiences, too.
( filtered to maes + riza )
[ almost immediately, his expression turns from serious and leaderlike to tired. ]
Who wants to keep notes?
[ PLEASE DON'T MAKE HIM DO IT :( ]
( end filter )
( ooc: please feel free to threadjack in this post! especially if you want to use this to foster CR and/or build "teams" that roy is looking to enlist. c: )

Depends on the machine and what you need it for. Your fastest spaceships are scouts or fighters. Your strongest tend to be battleships and cruisers.
this learning just so happens to coincide with, you know, cool spaceships that blow stuff up. ]
Battleships . . . I think I've spent more than enough of my life blowing things up.
[ ha ha ha. ]
Maybe subtlety is in the cards for me, next.
But this is about exploration. He's never gotten enough of that or exploring. What can they see and discover? What can they accomplish? Yes, what he knows of Roy? Roy would have easily made it at the Garrison.]
We'd start off with basic training before I move on to specialized. But, I agree. Stealth suits you better. [At least right now.]
[ his tone sounds amused. at home, roy is not subtle, in warfare. he's not really designed to be. he's the big cannon rolled out at the end, given an entire battlefield to incinerate, and keep moving. in practice, he moves through the political landscape of amestris with a fine-toothed comb . . . but battle? roy mustang? the flame alchemist? subtle?
his team would find that hysterical. but it is nice, to have a different skillset that doesn't necessarily revolve around destruction and chaos.
being here has been terrible, akvos was a disaster, and he wants to be home, but he can't deny that it has brought some level of peace, too. ]
I look forward to it.
The war waits for him back home. He's not sure who will survive it. Here...for as much as it has been terrible, he feels the closest to that pilot that looked to the sky and knew where he belonged. Some part of him found its way back from the debris left in the wake of the Galra and Haggar.]
If you want to get the feel of it at any time, let me know. I can take you up into the air whenever you feel like it.
I'll have to get permission from my keeper.
[ somewhere, offscreen, riza is long-suffering. ]
But I'm sure I could turn in a few favors to obtain said clearance.
It's a lot easier here with the Circle than it ever was with the Coven.
[ both are suffocating and both are problems, but he supposes the circle has been tolerable, versus the hellscape that the coven turned out to be. ]
And I can ask her, though I can't promise she'll say yes if I'm driving.
[ she will 150% say no. ]
[There is no steering this lion. He pauses, adding.] And I meant how much more power I have here in my other shape.
Before I was only as strong as any other beast. About as sturdy as a bear and not even close to the speed I have now. But I agree, it's worthwhile we can talk to Astoria.
We don't get answers we like and only some, but it's something.
[The excuses of the Voice of the Qri got to be really frustrating.]
[ WHEN WILL HE BE ABLE TO DRIVE
neverbut at the rest: ]
I don't know if I would call any of her communications answers, but it something.
[He's curious. Seeing as he is the ride and driver here.]
[ some of it is for safety purposes. roy spent most of the last few years being a target of a number of (alleged) terrorists, and driving around on his own was a little out of the question. some of it was because no one trusted his driving (which roy found absurd). but most of it was really roy just had little opportunity to drive on his own, given the circumstances of his status.
it was annoying, really. driving was fun, tyvm. ]
I guess I hoped for a little more freedom, that's all.
Think of it like we're mutually driving. I'm how you're in the air and you'll be directing where I go and how fast. You'll definitely be piloting with me when I teach you how to fly aircraft. Once I'm sure you have it down I'll just check readouts and give advice.
[You know, like a co-pilot should do.]
If we ever get the chance to build hoverbikes or so again, I'll show you how those work too. Sometimes a man just needs to drive.
[ read: he said he wanted to do it, riza provided a 50 point list on why that was a horrible idea, and he elected to listen. also, hughes had just shown up and roy was preoccupied with learning how to cope with that instead of having fun. good times. ]
But it is nice, being able to do any of those things. I don't complain about my position, but I was just getting into the feel of doing what I wanted to do, rather than what I was told, when I was taken from home. It's been non-stop ever since.
