[ there is a sudden sparking that emits from your magical watches and a hologram appears, showing a petit woman with dark hair. her eyes seem to hold a certain amount of mischief and light, and when she speaks, you listen. it's something about her; you are captivated by her presence, and you can't help but give her your attention. ]

Hello, hello, hello~! ♥

[ it's a trill of a voice, light and airy. ]

I know you've all just arrived~♥ but I wanted to introduce myself! To those who haven't met me, my name is Astoria! I know many of you are likely unhappy with being found here, and I understand. But the need is urgent, and dire, and I am in desperate need of your help, as is the universe in which we reside. There is much darkness, in this universe . . . plenty of worlds on the brink of collapse, or at the precipice of something great. It is my job -- our job -- to help where needed. Like superheroes, but a little less flashy!

[ she pauses. ]

No offense to the superheroes. -- but anyway! I want to let you know were we're going to go first.

[ she takes in a D E E P breath!! ]

There is a city, by the name of El Minha. It's beautiful, an oasis in the desert. There are many shops and stalls and the entire city is bustling, but El Minha is facing a difficult path. Transitions of power are hard, you know? And they have a new King, who is . . . probably nice, but the people there are suffering. Crime is at an all-time high, and King Kathashun can only do so much . . . if he's doing anything at all.

[ she brushes a loose piece of hair behind her ear, and astoria smiles a little. it is obvious, by now, that she's definitely bubbly and full of spirit, but she is deadly serious about her mission. ]

I truly believe that we have the ability to help those who need it most, and those people are in desperate need. So we're going to go there, explore, and talk to them! And maybe, just maybe, we can affect some good in this world, and change the tide for the better for these poor people.

[ she pauses. ]

So that's where we're going first! But before that, I'm here to greet you, to support you, and welcome you to my beautiful Temple. Please, please, please make yourselves at home! I'll be here if you have any questions. ♥

[ astoria pauses before lifting up a single finger, as if she's forgotten something important. ]

Oh, and please let me know if you find anything interesting or important or otherwise peculiar in the Temple! The Forest of the Fey is a magical place, and I'm keeping a careful eye on all of you explorers to make sure you don't get too lost, but my dear friends within the forest may like playing with you all, so be respectful of the wildlife! It may fight back. ♥

[ is she serious? the world may never know. ]

The response is as close to serious and scolding as a nervous and twitch kid can get, but Tweek's giving it his best.]

What do you mean probably nice! Are we supposed to be superheros and clean up the city? That's a lot of pressure!! And it sounds super dangerous!!

[There's a small twitch starting at his left eye with the thought of everything and how overwhelming it all is.]

And how do we know you aren't evil!? How do we know that we're doing the right thing?? Maybe the city is actually good and you want us to go and do bad things!

[ ah, right. the super nervous one. ]

Well, that decision is up to you, isn't it?

[ she doesn't sound offended or bothered by tweek's accusations -- instead, she almost looks encouraged, that he thought to ask. ]

You don't know much of anything at all, and I'm not asking you to trust me right off the bat -- that would be silly, wouldn't it? You are free to make whatever decision, or non-decision, you think is best. But I trust that all of you will make whatever decision is closest to the right thing, for you, and any small amount of help you can provide El Minha would be appreciated by everyone involved.

[ After taking up a vacant room, Rean hadn't had a lot of choice in the matter but to settle. His sleep wasn't particularly good nor bad, but it was enough for him to be active, and after putting on his jacket, he hadn't really an idea of how to go forward. He had learned a lot for how long he had arrived, but if there were to be some sort of guidepost, it'd have to come from Astoria herself.

Which, suffice it to say, she had impeccable timing enough to really sell that role. On his bedroom table, next to the...new set of decor--Rean had made a face towards--his watch beams. He had heard her voice before, so there wasn't any doubting who it was. Rean didn't have much of a choice but to listen.

There had been a lot to take in, but Rean wasn't satisfied with her. So, his reaction remains a little hostile. ]

Are you actually going to listen to questions? It's the least you could do, after all.

[ He's not too happy. Despite that, however, he feels that she's at least trying to do good in one way or another, so regardless, he feels a bit regretful for his attitude... ]

[ she's here to serve, as much as she can, anyway. ]

So that's what we're here for? To like, interfere in other people's worlds? ... by talking to them?

[Someone sounds skeptical. Someone is also a teenager, so tends to sound skeptical by default, but you know. She has reason to here, anyway.]

The last time I got kidnapped by somebody who wanted me to make a difference, they turned me into a monster. What's keeping you from doing the same thing?

Talking works, sometimes. Sometimes it takes a bit more than that. It depends, really, on the world. I doubt you'll need to come to arms in El Minha -- the king, for the most part, seems to be reasonable.

[ astoria pauses. ]

I'm sorry, that that happened to you. I have no intentions of turning anyone into anything; everything that happens in these worlds is up to you, and you alone. If you choose to do nothing and simply enjoy the universe, then you can do so. I won't be controlling what you do.

[ to astoria's credit, she seems to be entirely genuine. ]

Well. You already changed me. I can't do the whole turn-into-a-shadow thing anymore, even if I still have my tentacles. So you already did something.

[Grudgingly, as if she isn't necessarily upset about this.]

Okay, so this king is reasonable. Will we be allowed to get in to see him? Kings mostly only see rich people or heroic people, or people who have land or titles in his court. Not like, random travelers. How are we going to get in to even talk to him?

It was my hope that extending a portion of my magic to all of you would assist you better in our adventures. Powers tend not to work within the Temple . . . I haven't really figured out why.

[ whoops. but astoria moves on to jolie's next question! ]

From what I can gather from what I know, King Kathashun is interested in hearing what the people have to say, and makes himself accessible to doing so. So, if all goes well, you could talk to him! I imagine it depends on how he's feeling that day.

[ astoria's powers only go so far; she can't force this king to do anything, but she does, again, seem to be entirely genuine in what she says. ]

My advice would be to explore the city, get a feel for what is going on, and throw your weight into what feels best for you! There will be plenty of people to talk to, aside from the King. It's a massive city, after all.

[ In the back of his mind, he nearly wants to apologize. However, the situation she had forced her hand onto him was too big for him to relent just yet. He keeps up with putting his frustration in the forefront of his speech. ]

...You haven't exactly built up trust for us to just do whatever you want. [ Even though she has put them in a position where they can't not as well. ] In fact, I'd say you did just about the opposite.

[ There was...a lot Rean had to ask. But he needed to sort himself out, as this could very well be a rare opportunity. He doesn't know how she works just yet. The fact that she compared them all to "superheroes" really rubbed him wrong. ]

Why couldn't you just do this yourself? Did you really have to take everyone away from their homes? I don't know much about the laws here, and considering that you make them I assume, I'm sure you've made it pretty convenient to have "kidnapping" be a gray area.

[ ...Still, she was fairly "kind," not so much hostile, for a "kidnapper". ]

[That's scary, that the all-powerful person who dragged them here doesn't know how her own place works. Jolie decides not to comment further on it.]

Okay. What happens when we get there? Are we going to have money, or do we have to like. Get jobs? Will there be somewhere for us to stay and food and stuff? Can we tell people what we're there for or do we have to pretend to be local, or at least from their own world or whatever?

[Noct is trying not to feel entirely uncomfortable about that entire talk of New Kings and Transitions of power, because his own situation is - touchy, to say the least. How much does she know? Did she just take anyone at random? Is this something he can't just explain his own crisis of and be returned home?

He has a harder time really gathering his words, because he listens - and decides it can't hurt, to help a little. What's one sidetrip after another to do? Shutting his eyes for a moment, like he can send a little prayer of Sorry Luna, wait for me just a little longer, Noct finally tries to speak up.]

Uh - thanks, for bringing us here. Safely. And at least explaining what's going on. [Noct hesitates for a moment, because there's a lot of other things he could say or ask and - you know, he just wants to try and not be slack-jawed about this stuff for once in his life.]

Are there... any side effects we should know about, for all this world hopping? [It isn't like he hasn't noticed his lack of magic or anything, nah, not at all- yES it's noTICABLE.]

[This is leagues better than he expected but he's still skeptical. He waits until he's sure of what he wants to say.]

Do you mind going back over what you mean by there being a lot of darkness in the universe? ...correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're looking for people to assist in balancing the universe.

And just what is causing this darkness? Is it natural, or?

[There are a lot of people who are talking to her already about their current situation which is probably way more important anyway, but he'll leave it to them for now.

Not that that's a bad reason to be motivated or anything [Wanting to save people, that is--] but I'm not really the right guy for a job like that.

That's it, that's precisely it! Restoring balance to the universe, helping people recover from the ills of society . . . all of that! Like an intergalactic peacekeeping mission, we lend our powers, talents, and personalities to the greater good!

[ it's almost like a brochure. ]

As for what's causing the darkness -- forgive me, but are you human? I've lost track of who is what in the way here, there are a lot of you to keep up with.

[ astoria brought you all here, but how much she knows about all of you is entirely a mystery. but if noctis is paying attention, there's a certain brightness in her eyes, when he comes forward to speak to her; this one understands the delicacies of what they're about to embark on. ]

My magic will keep you safe, in transit. You won't be harmed going to or from El Minha; you'll arrive safely back at the Temple, when all is said and done.

[ pause. ]

I'm afraid I can't protect you as much on El Minha, though, so please remember to wear sunscreen.

[ :) ]

[He can't even vote, man, he has Reservations about meddling with an entire political system.]

It just seems kind of arrogant to assume I can somehow help make a place better than it is when I don't even belong there. Why are you so sure we can all help, anyway?

You'll be introduced to the city, but as far as what happens when we get there, you're going to have to be a little innovative. No one is going to let you starve, probably.

[ with a slight wave of her fingers. ]

You can share or hide as much as you like! I'm not in the business of hiding, and if you'd like to tell the natives about me or our mission, feel free! They might think you're crazy, but as far as I know, El Minha is used to magic. The concept of a witch won't be a totally alien one.

[He blinks, that had not been a question he'd expected. But from the sound of it. He sighs.] Yes, I'm human. Are you saying that the people themselves are responsible for the darkness of their worlds?

[ ah, yes. the question. ]

I am a very powerful mage, but my power is . . . centralized? I think that's the right word. I can't really leave.

[ astoria is a bit stuck, as it were. ]

I'm not entirely sure why, but whenever I try to leave here, my powers don't work. I'm not sure if it's because this place needs my magic to survive, or if it's because something is wrong . . . I haven't figured it out yet. But I'm stuck here, with the ability to bring people to me. Not the other way around. Which makes it kind of hard to do my job.

[ which is, you know. restoring peace to the universe. ]

I can't really do anything else but this until I figure it out, Rean. Do you understand?

[He's got this feeling that makes his discomfort increase greatly, and it shows in the slight grimace on his face - but at least he's distracted enough from that to her commentary.] That's great, I think, but where am I going to get sunscreen? Are we going to be provided anything once we're there, or do I start from scratch as an errand boy until I make a gil - or credit or whatever they're using?

[Please don't make me catch beetles in the desert, frogs in a swamp was wild enough.]

Well, no offense, but it's a little bit human nature-y to be a little dark sometimes, right?

[ with a slight shrug of her shoulders. ]

But there's quite a lot of it, in this universe, and I'm not sure if it's because people are naturally becoming darker, or if it's because there's more people than ever, or if something is causing people to go rogue . . . El Minha is fairly stable, but it's at the brink of something pretty catastrophic if we don't do something about it. One way or another, that city is going to change. It's up to us to assist the people through that.

[ there's a shrug of her shoulder! ]

You'll have to get innovative! The locals are fairly friendly, so try . . . asking?

[ and then, with a tiny happy laugh: ]

You could always fish for money.

[ HA HA IT'S A JOKE GET IT NOCTIS BECAUSE IT'S IN A DESERT ]

Because you are all the only hope we have.

[ with a slight . . . deflated-ness, of her bubbly behavior. ]

You have a lot more power than you realize, you know. You should have some amount of faith in yourself, even if you don't realize it yet. You have a lot of potential.
