[Keith spent a long time debating whether to bother with video for this or just go with text. But the truth is, for what he's aiming for, it's better to do this virtual-face to virtual-face. Or something. He's even done bothering with the frankly ridiculous mask. For now.

The video opens to a fairly normal looking teenager (aside from the fact that what's visible of him is definitely dressed in a skin-tight vaguely glowy futuristic space suit), hesitating a moment like he's still debating on how to begin.]

So. Uh.

[Good start, Keith. Solid.]

I guess all of us are stuck in the same boat whether we want to be or not. And apparently that boat is headed for some other world before we know it.

I'll be honest. I don't know if we can trust this Astoria as far as we can throw her. [And he knows she can hear this, but he's said as much to her face, so there's that.] But for now I guess I plan on going along to see how things play out. [Which after discussing with Shiro, he feels pretty okay about, as plans go.]

But... just waltzing into other worlds, and potentially meddling in them... that could go bad really quickly if someone makes an enemy of the wrong person. If that happens, it might not be a terrible idea to know what we've got on our side.

Not just magic either. Because... that's really new to me at least. But we all bring some experience or skills or knowledge or something to the table, right? If we're gonna be any sort of team, we may as well know our strengths. And what we might be lacking.

[Maybe? Keith is now wondering if it was a bad idea to give him a way to talk to so many people at once. But he's committed now, no help for it. So he'll even go first.]

I'm Keith. Uh... I guess I'm pretty good with a sword. Pretty good in anything that flies. And I'm mostly used to being in space, lately. But it does't sound like that'll be helpful in this El Minha place. Also apparently I can fly now. So... there's that.

It certainly is not something where I come from either. A gardener might do wonders with a plant but I do not believe they can thoroughly revive them either.

[That said though, there is something else she can't help but be curious about.]

You spoke of being in space. May I ask what that is like? I have come to somewhat understand during what little time we have had here thus far that I am somewhat removed from others here in regards to various aspects of life.

[Technology mostly. These watches still thoroughly amaze her. Forget really understanding how it works, she just knows how to use it and that's about it.]

[Keith has valid points. Enough to convince him to try it. Once. The feed briefly shuts off as he shapeshifts.]

[And clicks back on to the familiar glowing yellow eyes set in the face of the Black Lion. He presses his nose to the screen for a moment and his low rumbling growl fills the speakers.

At first, the test is just one long Growwwll. Speech to text has a bit of a fit that's similar texts, then finally.]

[Keith notes, surprised and a little impressed.] It works! ...is that what my name sounds like in Lion?

[Very interesting. ...also a little intimidating to be skyping with the Black Lion. But intimidating or not it's oddly cute. Is it wrong to find Shiro cute in this form? It probably is. And yet here Keith is.]

Well I mean, yeah. But this whole magic thing sort of goes right over my head, you know?

[Not what he's used to or good at or anything.]

The Voltron Lions. They're not actual lions. They're really advanced alien space craft in the shape of lions. But they're also sort of sentient? Anyway, they choose a pilot -- a paladin -- and once you're chosen there's a bond that forms. Psychically, I guess. Or spiritually. Or something.

It's definitely different. Most humans don't ever leave Earth. And even then, the one that do, humans have made it to the outer edges of the solar system. My friends and I kind of got swept up into this alien war. Their technology is so far advanced from anything Earth is capable of yet. But... it's incredible. There are so many different sorts of peoples different planets.

It's kind of amazing, getting to see all those sorts of things.

[A pause and he adds,] In between fighting anyway.

{Cheerful thought, right?] Either way, for now we're pretty stuck here until the witch decides to send us home.

Guess it isn't. I'll work on that.

[He's not a complete pessimist! But cynical? yeah, he's that.]

[It's intensely cheesy, but Keith is honestly pretty pleased with it. He's never liked keeping his feet planted on the ground.]

Hopefully it will be useful, once I get used to it anyway.

[This is a really weird experience and that's coming from a space pilot that shape-shifts into an alien Lion-shaped machine. He leans back so his nose isn't too close to the screen. And does the lion equivalent of a shrug, lifting his shoulders and letting them fall back down. He attempts words again, by which there's just more rumbles and growling.]

I guess so. This is really weird but, at least we know it does work. I can deal with this in an emergency.

[Her face falls a little - his words hit just a bit too close to home, and she doesn't know why she still hopes despite a half century of evidence to the contrary that humanity as a whole is better than that.]

The people of your Earth and your time are very fortunate to have you and your friends.

And here? Are you the only one of your friends who has been brought here?

... It'd be nice if one of those worlds was ours.

No idea. King Alfor built them ten thousand years ago, and that's how he made them.

[Maybe he liked lions? Maybe they wanted to be lions? Keith has no idea. Voltron is fairly unique as, well, anything goes.]

[No alien invasion of Earth. That's the general goal, anyway. Keith shakes his head.]

No, not just me. Shiro is here too. He's the leader of Voltron. [And the best friend that Keith has ever had.]

I can only like glow but it makes total sense for it to become something else over time if I put more effort into it! [ he laughs and sounds so relieved too. ] You're really good at this, you know?
