[Keith spent a long time debating whether to bother with video for this or just go with text. But the truth is, for what he's aiming for, it's better to do this virtual-face to virtual-face. Or something. He's even done bothering with the frankly ridiculous mask. For now.

The video opens to a fairly normal looking teenager (aside from the fact that what's visible of him is definitely dressed in a skin-tight vaguely glowy futuristic space suit), hesitating a moment like he's still debating on how to begin.]

So. Uh.

[Good start, Keith. Solid.]

I guess all of us are stuck in the same boat whether we want to be or not. And apparently that boat is headed for some other world before we know it.

I'll be honest. I don't know if we can trust this Astoria as far as we can throw her. [And he knows she can hear this, but he's said as much to her face, so there's that.] But for now I guess I plan on going along to see how things play out. [Which after discussing with Shiro, he feels pretty okay about, as plans go.]

But... just waltzing into other worlds, and potentially meddling in them... that could go bad really quickly if someone makes an enemy of the wrong person. If that happens, it might not be a terrible idea to know what we've got on our side.

Not just magic either. Because... that's really new to me at least. But we all bring some experience or skills or knowledge or something to the table, right? If we're gonna be any sort of team, we may as well know our strengths. And what we might be lacking.

[Maybe? Keith is now wondering if it was a bad idea to give him a way to talk to so many people at once. But he's committed now, no help for it. So he'll even go first.]

I'm Keith. Uh... I guess I'm pretty good with a sword. Pretty good in anything that flies. And I'm mostly used to being in space, lately. But it does't sound like that'll be helpful in this El Minha place. Also apparently I can fly now. So... there's that.

Anyone else feel like sharing?

Yeah... sort of live there now. Or will once I get out of this place again.

Honestly, alien food is pretty terrible, so you'd definitely have that beat without a doubt.

[Like really. Hunk does his best and it's amazing how well he does. Anyway.]

What power did Astoria stick you with?

We looked like the universe's weirdest cheerleaders, Shiro.

[It was a terrible idea. But part of their bonding. And Shiro is right the flying back and forth information got old... quickly. Really really quickly.

He starts to make a face at him at the idea of building him something to crash into except,] Actually that might not be a bad idea at all.

And you definitely won't be the last that needs to learn how to fly. [He adds, to take the sting off the idea of crashing.] I'm a little jealous I had to learn the hard way.

[Wait. Should he warn him? If it were anyone else he wouldn't.]

I'm not sure that forest has them but...watch out for birds and bats. They don't react well to being startled.

Then again a person might be less surprising than a Lion in the sky. Who knows. [Birds are assholes.]

[ he holds up both of his hands and stares at his palms, wide-eyed and suspicious. ]

So we all have magic? And you can fly. Or is the mechanical lion your magic?

[ sorry bro, magic has never been a Thing before and is super confused. ]

[ keith gets to live in space, but alien food is terrible. soma isn't sure if he should be jealous or not. ]

I didn't know I had one until your buddy over there said so. Must've missed that part of orientation.

[ said still in a daze, because he might be Dealing but all of this is still going way over his head. ]

But you said you can fly, right? How does that work?

Yes, we all have magic granted to us by Astori. The lion is mine. Keith's is he can fly. [He can see this poor guy is lost. Maybe he will have a word with Astoria to let people know about this tidbit of the deal.

He sighs,]

What are you used to? It might help to start there and we can work our way up from there.

[ he scrubs a weary hand over his face. ]

I woke up here after winning a cooking competition at my high school in Tokyo. To say all of this is new to me would be a huge understatement.

[ - but then a thought hits him! ]

Can I see your lion?

Lions, lions. [ he'll acquiesce; the rest of it is more important, and roy considers that for a long moment. he had assumed shiro had always been the leader, but "circumstances" change . . . so keith took over the black lion, when shiro . . . went to do what, exactly?

all of that being said, keith has offered a lot, so: ] I'm afraid I have little experience in terms of flying feline artillery, but I am military, which comes with the typical rank and file skills. [ read: he can fight. ] As for here, most of what makes me unique in my world seems to be missing, though I've been given an ability that I find useful, if I choose to use it.

[That's...quite a jump. He's seen it before but it never fails to take him by surprise. He pauses, and nods.]

Hold on.

[He leans away from the screen but it still picks up swirls of purple light as he changes his shape.]

[A low leonine growl rolls through the air and he leans back in, yellow eyes glowing and attempting to judge the distance between himself and the screen.]

[ several things seem to happen all at once.

first: soma's eyes widen into this, basically, because even if magic is an entirely new concept to him, doesn't every kid want to meet a real life actual mech? he exhales quietly: ]

This is awesome.

[ but then he is distracted by the second thing: a text that draws his attention away from the mechanical freaking lion that was previously a person. ]

Uh, sorry. One second.

[ even though it is really hard for him to look away from shiro to cut off the feed temporarily. what does auntie a want? ]

[ when the video feed pops back on, there is a slim stream of water rapidly spinning in a circle over soma's head, his hands lifted up towards it and his eyes even wider than before. ]

This is awesome!

[ magic is terrifying and also really cool!! ]

"Anything that flies"?

[ Which... sounds like it'd be him now. Well, that's still pretty cool. Ryoko pauses, reflecting on what she said the last time she's had to introduce herself. Hrm. ]

--My name's Ryoko Asakura. I'm a... former Magi, and I think I'm still able to heal. I used to be able to make a closed space, but I can't do that anymore.

[ Not right now, anyway. ]

Oh, I'm good at cooking too! And I'm very good at following directions, and I'm going to do my best.

[ That last thing goes without saying, but it felt like a good thing to end up on! ]

[It's not like eh can even really be that offended by the crashing thing. He regularly crashes things he's genuinely excellent at flying because he takes risks and doesn't know when to back off. So. Crash pad. Definitely a good plan.

Wait though.]

...sounds like there's a story behind that one Shiro. [He's not smirking. He promises.] But thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I'd rather not wind up pecked to death.

...is it being infuriatingly vague? Because yeah, that seems downright magical.

[How much do you love teenagers, Roy? A lot or a LOT?

Keith will at least tuck away the bit about him being military. That is good to know because that definitely comes with certain skill sets.]

Yeah well, the whole thing is confusing, and a lot to take in. Can't exactly blame you for not getting every detail in the first go.

[It's okay, kid. They're all sort of in that boat. Keith personally is just used to weirdness so far out of his depth that there's no choice but to swim for his life.]

I'm still figuring it out, but I just kind of think about it. Still haven't gotten the mechanics worked out entirely.

Yeah. Haven't found anything I can't fly yet.

[It's more than a little cocky, but he's got a fair amount of justified confidence in his piloting abilities. ...though he's still learning the ins and outs of his own ability here because, as it turns out, he does not handle like a fighter or a lion.]

A Magi? [He echoes because in his head that's one of the three kings in the Christmas manger scenes or something, right? But she can't mean that. So.

Also that was... so pure. Keith doesn't even know how to respond.] Uh yeah. I... uh... I hope we all are. Our bests.

That sounds almost like an action movie line. Like you're a hotshot!

[ That's what they're called, right? That's more of a Haruhi thing. ]

Oh, uh... well, I guess kinda normally I'd be called a 'magical girl'? Magi is just more of a neutral term, there were a lot of us, both girls and guys.

Oh! We're flying buddies!

[ AREN'T YOU JUST SO HAPPY, KEITH.

And yes, Rion will address the rest of this properly, but for now--!! Look at that, similarities. ]

[In the time it takes Soma to do whatever he needed to do Shiro has returned to normal. He grins.]

Well done! How did you find out what your power is? [That had been rather quick.]

There's....not much of a story to it. [Yes there is. He can see that smirk too. He's never living this down.]

I got a little preoccupied and happened to drop down into their flock on my way down. [Birds are still assholes even if it's justified.]

And bats just...bats are bats.

[ it helps a lot having people that are already kind of used to it! soma wants to learn everything he possibly can from them. ]

Just thinking about it makes it happen?

[ and for convenience's sake, we'll say he gets this text at about the same moment; he'll glance away from the video at it curiously. ]

... Huh. Astoria wants me to think really hard about water now. Do you think she's watching us?

[ but he's more curious than anything, so the feed will follow him as he walks over to a nearby sink. ]

Astoria just messaged me about it! She must've seen us talking about it.

[ or can she just see everything they're doing all the time always? that's a terrifying thought, but he's still too enchanted by the fact that he has magic to think too long on it right now. ]

[Hotshot. Hothead. He's heard both of those things, so he doesn't bother arguing or anything like that, even if he can't help looking vaguely sheepish at having it put that way.]

Magical girl... So... magic is normal for you?

[Not that it's entirely foreign to him. Allura can do magic-y things. And the Galra druids have fairly terrifying magic. But not like all this.]

Flying... buddies?

[Well. Umm.]

You can fly too? How's it going for you?

[He is still figuring it out.]
