[Keith spent a long time debating whether to bother with video for this or just go with text. But the truth is, for what he's aiming for, it's better to do this virtual-face to virtual-face. Or something. He's even done bothering with the frankly ridiculous mask. For now.

The video opens to a fairly normal looking teenager (aside from the fact that what's visible of him is definitely dressed in a skin-tight vaguely glowy futuristic space suit), hesitating a moment like he's still debating on how to begin.]

So. Uh.

[Good start, Keith. Solid.]

I guess all of us are stuck in the same boat whether we want to be or not. And apparently that boat is headed for some other world before we know it.

I'll be honest. I don't know if we can trust this Astoria as far as we can throw her. [And he knows she can hear this, but he's said as much to her face, so there's that.] But for now I guess I plan on going along to see how things play out. [Which after discussing with Shiro, he feels pretty okay about, as plans go.]

But... just waltzing into other worlds, and potentially meddling in them... that could go bad really quickly if someone makes an enemy of the wrong person. If that happens, it might not be a terrible idea to know what we've got on our side.

Not just magic either. Because... that's really new to me at least. But we all bring some experience or skills or knowledge or something to the table, right? If we're gonna be any sort of team, we may as well know our strengths. And what we might be lacking.

[Maybe? Keith is now wondering if it was a bad idea to give him a way to talk to so many people at once. But he's committed now, no help for it. So he'll even go first.]

I'm Keith. Uh... I guess I'm pretty good with a sword. Pretty good in anything that flies. And I'm mostly used to being in space, lately. But it does't sound like that'll be helpful in this El Minha place. Also apparently I can fly now. So... there's that.

[she's still getting the hang of this spell device; its an upgrade of sorts for her inactive earring of whispers, so not entirely unintuitive.]

If Astoria's one of the Fey, and I'm not entirely certain she's not, you can trust them to be untrustworthy. Or at least fair weather and flighty; we'll want to be ready in case her interest wanes. Also, it's important not to make any deals with them.

[a beat, then:]

Lady Vex'ahlia. Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone, Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt and slayer of the Frigid Doom.

And this is Trinket. [said, as the head of a very large brown bear pokes into view]

That's the general idea, but their shifting isn't fully predictable, and if they kill a human it makes it almost impossible to control, even if they want to.

Dare I hope that's because people no longer need them to fight amongst each other? [That was a small hope.] If there are beings from other worlds threatening the Earth, surely...?

Why no deals? I mean... we're sort of stuck on her terms. And she gave us these powers and expects us to run her errands.

[And Keith at the moment isn't sure what to make of any of that. But that is... quiet a name... title. Thing.]

[...Keith will even take it as genuine. Which he appreciates honestly. Because he sure is trying. And he sure is skeptical about this whole thing: Astoria, meddling in other worlds, new magic powers (except flying? actually pretty great).

What do you mean make them better? What kind of line of work is that? I mean... I guess you could say the same for Voltron. But... [If this guy isn't a fighter, probably not the same thing.]

True. And there's no huge dangerous war going on, which means it's a little calmer than back home.

Not exactly. For one thing, most humans don't know aliens even exist. Thankfully. The Earth hasn't been attacked by the Galra yet. Hopefully it never will be.

[That's the general hope, anyway. Stop the empire from invading anywhere else, liberates the planets currently under its control. And they're getting there.]

...but honestly people just moved on to newer weapons instead of swords to fight with each other.

[He is not up on his magical vocabulary it seems.]

... I guess another disclaimer that I should make is that it doesn't last for too long. I think, I'm, an hour tops?

I did learn something just now. I didn’t notice it before but, the watch changes size when I shift shape. I could probably text like that but I’d have to learn how. Lion feet are not conductive to the task.

[Well, that was a long shot anyway.]

Were you recruited to this war? If the enemies you are fighting have not yet reached Earth, you must be very far from home.

["low on choices." there's something about that phrasing that causes Akira's hackles to raise, though it's hardly Keith's fault. he doesn't like being backed into corners]

And create more choices for ourselves the more we learn.

[Keith snorts while trying to hold back a laugh because the image of Black Lion Shiro trying to figure out texting is amazing.]

Maybe stick to video or audio. But it's probably useful you can still access the network even in that form. Even if it's not secure, it's still a quick way to get in contact, and there might be times we need that.

[But he's still trying not to smirk.] I want to watch you try to text though.

Yeah. Against the Galra empire... or what's left of it anyway. We've been making progress -- which is good, considering they'd basically taken over most of the known universe in the past ten thousand years.

[Sadly it all does feel casual to him at this point. That's what his life has become. The new normal.]

[Keith nods in full agreement.]

That sounds like the best idea to me. It's just a matter of figuring things out. Right now all we have is questions.

[And some "answers" as provided by Astoria, but how trustworthy those are is one of the main questions.]

Recruited? Sort of. My friends and I mostly got swept up in it. But... we had the chance to make a difference in it, so we took it.

[He hesitates before nodding.]

Yeah. We're a long way from Earth.

[Though he's not sure he'd call Earth "home" at this point. He's not sure he'd call anywhere home at this point.]

I wonder if you could push that limit the more you use it. Like exercising to get stronger?

[Keith is curious about that in general. He's still figuring out his power and where its limits are. But once he finds them, the next step will be pushing them. Because he isn't good at resisting the urge to o exactly that.]

Safer? How do they manage that?
