[Keith spent a long time debating whether to bother with video for this or just go with text. But the truth is, for what he's aiming for, it's better to do this virtual-face to virtual-face. Or something. He's even done bothering with the frankly ridiculous mask. For now.

The video opens to a fairly normal looking teenager (aside from the fact that what's visible of him is definitely dressed in a skin-tight vaguely glowy futuristic space suit), hesitating a moment like he's still debating on how to begin.]

So. Uh.

[Good start, Keith. Solid.]

I guess all of us are stuck in the same boat whether we want to be or not. And apparently that boat is headed for some other world before we know it.

I'll be honest. I don't know if we can trust this Astoria as far as we can throw her. [And he knows she can hear this, but he's said as much to her face, so there's that.] But for now I guess I plan on going along to see how things play out. [Which after discussing with Shiro, he feels pretty okay about, as plans go.]

But... just waltzing into other worlds, and potentially meddling in them... that could go bad really quickly if someone makes an enemy of the wrong person. If that happens, it might not be a terrible idea to know what we've got on our side.

Not just magic either. Because... that's really new to me at least. But we all bring some experience or skills or knowledge or something to the table, right? If we're gonna be any sort of team, we may as well know our strengths. And what we might be lacking.

[Maybe? Keith is now wondering if it was a bad idea to give him a way to talk to so many people at once. But he's committed now, no help for it. So he'll even go first.]

I'm Keith. Uh... I guess I'm pretty good with a sword. Pretty good in anything that flies. And I'm mostly used to being in space, lately. But it does't sound like that'll be helpful in this El Minha place. Also apparently I can fly now. So... there's that.

Anyone else feel like sharing?

This was a good idea. [Keith is trying and he has more than a point, however rough around the edges it is.]

For the purposes of this network....I'm Shiro, formerly with the Coven but my power is the same. I shapeshift in a mechanical flying lion. I can fly but there's....some adjustments to be had with this newer version of the magic.

I'm also a pilot with decent combat experience. [Understatement. He pauses.]

...it would really be a good idea for anyone to start figuring out their magic now. Or ask Astoria about it. Some magic might be passive and cause problems the rest of us need to adjust for to help that person.

[Keith doesn't intend to look as relieved and pleased as he does at that approval, but he definitely does.] Yeah? Good.

[But Shiro brings up a few points that Keith wouldn't have even considered.] You know way more about this magic stuff than I do. What do you mean by "passive?"

[Educate him, Shiro. He's all ears. Also, for the record.] Also "pilot with decent combat experience" is a candidate for understatement of the deca-phoeb, you know.

[ roy is a Network Stalker (tm) and has been following all of this since arrival, but what he notices most is that shiro and keith know each other. and he considers that for a moment before he turns on his own video feed, and while he doesn't offer up any information right off the bat, he does say: ]

[ followed up with: ]

You have a wealth of experience for someone who can't be any older than eighteen. How old are you?

[He just shrugs and focuses on the important part. They're here to discuss what everyone can do for the team.]

Some magic is always active or, 'on'. It can't be shut off. That was then. It might not even be a possibility here but I still think it's something to consider.

[He'd rather that be out and handled now. Since they're headed into a mine field of a political situation.]

I don't know much about magic either. But it seems to have a vast spectrum.

Yeah, I know him. From back home.

[Keith answers, like Shiro isn't essentially the most important person in his life.]

You know Shiro? From the, uh, Coven he talked about, the witch before this witch?

[...and then he's straight up called out.]

...Eighteen. [SHH.] Maybe nineteen, actually. It's been hard to keep track of the date away from Earth. Anyway, age never really seemed to come up in the war. [Pidge is like eleven. Or something. Or maybe just eleven-year-old-sized. ~~Sorry Pidge.~~]

[Keith outright frowns at that. Magic you can't turn off? So whatever the effects are just always on?]

...that sounds potentially terrible. It'd definitely be something good to know before it winds up affecting something... or someone... at the wrong time.

[A sigh, full on teenager for the moment because why does he now have to learn to deal with the spectrum of magic.] And I thought all that crazy Altean stuff Allura could do was complicated enough.

I do; we're familiar.

[ eighteen, good lord. at least this one is considered an adult. ]

War never seems to care.

[ pause.

So which giant cat thing do you fly around in?

[ RIGHT TO THE POINT. ]

[Chances are if this guy is on Shiro's bad list, he's gonna wind up on Keith's, but the converse is also true. So.

Anyway.

That question is way more loaded than Roy may realize.]

Right now? None. I'm not a Paladin anymore. I'm with the Blade of Marmora... allies of Voltron. But before... Red. [And then his expression just plain falters because Keith has no poker face whatsoever.] And Black, for a while.

[He shakes it off as best he can and adds,] And they're lions.

[Outright laughing over here.]

She'd fit right in here. I've seen various kinds of magic. ...one kid could control technology at a touch. [He nods, more of that approval in his voice. Keith had spotted exactly what he's getting at.]

And yes, exactly. Thankfully the city we'll be heading into isn't against magic. Should be able to find a safe space for people to practice what abilities can be practiced.

[ -- interesting. he absorbs that, digests it, files it away, before -- ]

We get along. [ he likes shiro quite a bit. ] And I'm more of a dog person. [ THAT BEING SAID: ] But you can switch between lions?

[ roy has literally no idea how any of this works but he's a good liar so he'll fake it until he makes it. ]

Like the Olkari? Or actually taking control of a machine?

[So Keith has a lot to learn about magic and how it works and can manifest. Great. A steep learning curve right before they're being dumped into a world they can't begin to understand. Sounds... so familiar.]

...but you've been places that wasn't the case.

["We get along" is at least good enough for the benefit of the doubt. So congratulations, Roy.]

[Mr. Dog Person. Has he been clear on that yet??

As for that next question, it earns a shrug, noncommittal. For all that Keith can be mature and focused, he's also very much a teenager with many of his mannerisms sometimes, even after all his time with the Blade. But he will answer, anyway, after a moment.]

[He goes very quiet, his expression shifting to neutral. It doesn't take a genius to notice that he'd implied that. But all the same the thought of another Shehui...He rubs his temples.]

Once. Hopefully never again. Anyway I think it was very much like the Olkairi. He could manipulate the moving parts of machines by thinking about it.

[Why not admit a few things to put Keith at ease. He sighs.]

I barely know anything about magic, so don't worry if this all feels a bit overwhelming. I had to have help figuring out how to fly and even then. I crashed a lot. It took a lot of practice to even get in the air by my own power.

[Feels like sharing? Elizabeth considers.]

I am afraid I do not have as many wondrous things to share as you. Even if I do seem capable of mending items through touch alone, I have certainly never been to space.

[... Her voice nicely matches the teasing expression on her face.]

I am the second eldest of five sisters though. Perhaps that is some accomplishment, at least in the realm of patience?

[Impossible to miss that reaction. So Keith won't push. Not now, not yet. But it's entirely possible he'll have to, at some point, if they do wind up facing some world of that sort. For now though he lets the subject change.]

Huh. Sounds like the sort of thing that could come in handy.

[Keith's attention shifts when Shiro continues though. He nods.] It's something new, entirely new. I guess I'd have to expect to need to get used to it. Like learning to form Voltron at first. [NOSTALGIA.] Remember the lion pyramid?

[Not their finest moment.]

You can fix things just by touching them? What kind of things?

[Because that sure sounds like it could be a useful trick.]

Actually, that sounds pretty impressive. I don't have any... [Family.] siblings... but I've got these five friends that were kind of like a family, and I think we tried even Shiro's patience. Which is saying something.

[He laughs then he sighs. It had been a rather interesting afternoon. Definitely not their finest moment but, fond all the same.] It wasn't a bad idea! We just...had zero idea what to do.

It beat flying back and forth like we were practicing drills. But you'll get used to this. It will just take more practice.

[He thinks back to his own crashes and adds.] Maybe we should set up some sort of cushioned test area so you can safely crash a few times.

[ there is one ( 1 ) very confused fifteen year old eying you warily through the feed, shiro, but at least he looks earnest?? ]

I'm gonna level with you, man, I didn't understand most of what you just said.

[ mechanical ... flying lion??? wtf is this place even. ]

But - "their magic"? What's that all about?

From what I have seen, it has been smaller things. A flower I accidentally stepped upon in the forest and even my bread, if you can believe such a thing.

[Do you know how hard it is to break bread when your power is apparently healing anything organic or inorganic? She's finally learned to set pieces a good bit apart nowadays.]

I confess that I have not attempted to see the abilities' fullest extent however. I thought it best to adjust to the idea of it altogether before doing too much with it.

[When he speaks of friends though, her expression softens.]

I am glad to hear, both of your friends and of your trying one's patience. I believe a bit of having your patience stretched is good for a person, at least if such stretching does not include breaking.

You've been to space?

[ yes, soma, that is the most bewildering thing about this post and their general situation. he scratches his head with both hands, ruffling his already haphazardly spiky hair. ]

Man, all of you are so much cooler than me. This is unreal!

[ for what it's worth, though? he looks more amazed ( star-struck, one might even say ha ha ) than upset about this revelation. he starts listing facts off of his hand at that point, like this is a classroom introduction or something. ]

[He holds up his hands and smiles pleasantly.]

Ah, so Astoria didn't mention that to everyone. Alright. [He nods to himself, and continues in a calm tone.]

She said she brought us here to help. Whether true or not, we're tied to her by magic or some form of energy. That gives us each an ability whether we had special abilities beyond what was normal for our people or not.

Is that clearer?

You fixed a flower. Do you think you could like... fix a person?

[But okay she brings up a good point.] Probably a good idea to get used to it though. That's a good point.

[That earns something of a smile from Keith, which isn't always the easiest thing.] Nah, Shiro's tougher than that. I don't think we ever really broke him.
