[Keith spent a long time debating whether to bother with video for this or just go with text. But the truth is, for what he's aiming for, it's better to do this virtual-face to virtual-face. Or something. He's even done bothering with the frankly ridiculous mask. For now.

The video opens to a fairly normal looking teenager (aside from the fact that what's visible of him is definitely dressed in a skin-tight vaguely glowy futuristic space suit), hesitating a moment like he's still debating on how to begin.]

So. Uh.

[Good start, Keith. Solid.]

I guess all of us are stuck in the same boat whether we want to be or not. And apparently that boat is headed for some other world before we know it.

I'll be honest. I don't know if we can trust this Astoria as far as we can throw her. [And he knows she can hear this, but he's said as much to her face, so there's that.] But for now I guess I plan on going along to see how things play out. [Which after discussing with Shiro, he feels pretty okay about, as plans go.]

But... just waltzing into other worlds, and potentially meddling in them... that could go bad really quickly if someone makes an enemy of the wrong person. If that happens, it might not be a terrible idea to know what we've got on our side.

Not just magic either. Because... that's really new to me at least. But we all bring some experience or skills or knowledge or something to the table, right? If we're gonna be any sort of team, we may as well know our strengths. And what we might be lacking.

[Maybe? Keith is now wondering if it was a bad idea to give him a way to talk to so many people at once. But he's committed now, no help for it. So he'll even go first.]

I'm Keith. Uh... I guess I'm pretty good with a sword. Pretty good in anything that flies. And I'm mostly used to being in space, lately. But it does't sound like that'll be helpful in this El Minha place. Also apparently I can fly now. So... there's that.

I've got the basics down when it comes to balance, but I can't fly very far or very fast yet.

[ She also had the advantage of a wing-shaped weapon at home, so she's adjusting to her power better than she would have if it had been literally anything else. ]

I'm still figuring out changing direction. And keeping steady.

[It's a work in progress for certain. But he's far better at it when he's not thinking about it. Which is harder than it sounds.]

Sounds like. I guess everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, even with new abilities.

[A pause and he adds,] Shiro and I were talking about maybe putting together a sort of training course.

A... training course? You mean for everyone?

video;

[lonered]

Well, for everyone who can fly, one way or another. So we can get the hang of our new abilities before we wind up actually needing to use them in the real world.

[Which Keith is a proponent of. It reminds him of the training deck on the Castle or the simulators back in the Blade's base.]

Well, if you're gonna go through with it, let me know? I think it's a good idea.

[ especially because throwing a bunch of people who can't fly into an entirely different world (again) seems like it would be a problem. ]

Sure, I'll let you know. I think that's the plan anyway. I think Shiro would use it too. The form he can turn into can fly.

[Though Shiro has a lot more experience with that than Keith has with his newfound flight ability.]

[ ... she's already wondering what the heck he can turn into. ]

Yeah, a friend from back home. He's here too.

[She wouldn't believe him if he told her honestly. It's a lot to explain. Easier to see it.]

The last thing I want is for Shiro to be stuck here too. Or any of us for that matter, but... it's kind of a relief having him around.

[And knowing that he's here for Shiro too, much as he can be.

And wow his cynicism is... no yeah also a good point.]

Aww!! Maybe you two should bunk together. There were some two-bed rooms, right?

No. Yeah, I mean, yeah we are. I mean, we used to be on the same Team -- I mean we're still on the same team, just not the same Team, you know? -- anyway. I guess we're used to working together.

Uh. Well, I get that you're roomies...? And that's good?

[ team/Team?? ]

Yeah, we're roomies. And yeah, it's good.

[He's just not good at explaining things.] I just meant, I don't fly with Voltron anymore. That's the team Shiro leads. But the group I'm with now, we're on the same side as Voltron. I'm always going to be on the same side as Voltron.

Got it... you're in two different groups but you're sharing the same stage.

[ look, she has to simplify it... slightly... ]

Uh... yeah, actually, that's it exactly.

[The theatre of war. So the metaphor holds up honestly.]

Okay, then I think I really do get it.

... I have someone here from home, too. It honestly helps a lot.

Yeah. It really does. I feel kind of terrible being grateful someone else I care about has gotten stuck in this mess too, but it really is good to have him here.

[Keith wouldn't wish this on anyone, really. But they're here, regardless.]

Think of it this way-- in terms of messes, at least it's not immediately "kidnapped and thrown into some weird place to get attacked by monsters" or anything like that.

[ She speaks from experience. ]

True. And there's no huge dangerous war going on, which means it's a little calmer than back home.

[A little.]

Wait-- you were in the middle of a huge dangerous war?

[ He says that so casually?? ]

Yeah. Against the Galra empire... or what's left of it anyway. We've been making progress -- which is good, considering they'd basically taken over most of the known universe in the past ten thousand years.

[Sadly it all does feel casual to him at this point. That's what his life has become. The new normal.]

... I kind of feel like that's a popular plot in video games, but...

Come to think of this, this whole thing probably does too and it's still actually happening. So, uh-- good luck getting the upper hand after ten thousand years! That's pretty incredible!
