Hello?

It looks like tech, but it's apparently magic. That's a new one, even for me. Although the past few days have been nothing BUT "new ones" so I suppose I should just get used to that. Not the point here, let me get to it.

My name's Carmen. I came in with the festival I guess. I'm currently hanging out at the Fighting Ring and was curious if there was anyone who also wanted to blow off some steam or at least work off some of that food.
If not, I guess I'll be giving these dummies a beat down.

[There's a pause and then quickly adds.]

Oh. Or I guess I could finally try to figure out this ability I was supposedly given. After everything else I've seen and heard that one might be the least strange. Unfortunately, I can't test my ability without some help. If you're interested let me know. It could be interesting for the both of us.

May I ask what it is you're able to do?

[ He supposes not everyone would want to broadcast that information, but she had asked. He thinks it's fair enough. ]

[Oh right, she had been a little vague. If she was going to get help she should probably explain a little.]

Well, I haven't tried it yet, but Astoria told me my ability was to copy other people's powers after I've touched them. So I really can't do anything unless I get a volunteer or just start playing a rather inconvenient game of tag. I thought this might go over a bit better.

I see.

[ He sounds interested, and smiles to himself. ]

Well, then it seems we may be able to help each other. I've yet to learn to intricacies of my new powers. Perhaps we could test them out together.

Would you like to meet?

Sure, I don't have any other plans at the moment.

[It was starting to get a little boring really. She was glad for a chance to do something, even if it was weird that it was some ability she had no idea how to really use.]

Have you found the fighting ring yet? That's where I'm currently hanging out. It's not too hard to find.

I know it. Still, I wonder if somewhere more quiet might be appropriate? My power is not violent in nature, and I'd hate to prevent someone from using the ring for how it was intended.

[ More accurately, he doesn't want to showcase his power out in the open like that. Anyone might see it, and he'd rather keep it close to his chest for the moment. ]

Thanks. It's nice to meet you Ryoko. It's still pretty empty here so more than enough space, depending on what it is you want to work on.

And actually I could use your help. My power allows me to copy other people's abilities, so I can't exactly practice by myself. Would you be willing to let me borrow yours?

W...Well, I don't see anything wrong with that. I'll be there in a moment.

[ If it'll help her, that's okay. Plus, hey, she wouldn't need her power unless things really got bad. It doesn't take her that long at all to reach the Fighting Ring, hair already tied up in a ponytail.

It'll be the first time she's actually spent a lot of time in here, but it was better to learn together. Once she sees Carmen, she waves her down. Looks like she's ready! ]

[Carmen figures if she's on her way then there isn't much need to respond. Though she does notice that Ryoko hadn't exactly said what she could do.

She raises her hand in greeting when she sees a young woman enter the ring. Carmen's best guess is she's a teenager. She won't know what she can do until they actually start some kind of sparing.]

Hey. Thanks for coming. Are you interested in working on anything in particular?

[ Yup, still a teenager. Ryoko's nervous in her own right, considering she hasn't done too much in the way of training since she got there.

She was handy with her knife, held close to her as safe as she could. It was much easier when she could just summon it, but alas. All she wanted to do was see how far she could go like this. ]

Well... something normal, for a little bit. Maybe learning how to use this thing without hurting someone too badly?

[ She. Hadn't really considered how dangerous a knife could really be against a living thing, as opposed to assorted monsters. ]

I train at the Fighting Ring regularly. I can meet you there. Do you fight with weapons or with hand to hand combat?

Sounds good to me.

I can use weapons, but I would say predominately I'm a hand to hand kind of person.

I am the opposite. A swordswoman first, with hand to hand as a secondary skill. Perhaps we can help one another improve.

I definitely haven't worked with swords much. Could be interesting.

Astoria has generously provided swords and bows for people to train with.

[She has plenty of issues with Astoria's methods, but this, at least, is fine.]

[ hmm. the thought is intriguing, but inej is uncomfortable with someone else having her power, given how useful it is. ]

Do you keep them permanently?
Or do they fade with time?
And it has to be through touch?

I haven't had a chance to find out the limitations much. I don't think its permanent though. It's also not an ability that takes your borrow, I would just get a version of it.

I do know I haven't gotten any abilities yet by just looking at people, so touch is the only factor I can imagine it being.

I think it would depend on how I use it. But overall I'd say it's fairly useful.

What kind of powers would be considered funny?

I can put on a really impressive concert, which is a lot of fun, but not very useful against horrifying space monsters.

Horrifying space --- oh you mean the last world you guys were at?

[She'd heard bits and pieces by this point. It did not sound appealing at all and made her rather nervous about what the future might hold.]

No, I suppose that wouldn't seem very useful. My power seems to be an ability that allows for copying of other powers.

I very much do. The worst spaceship I've ever been on, by a large margin. [Why can't it have been a spaceship like the Macross-classes she's called home?]

Can you copy anyone else's as you wish? That seems pretty powerful.
