[ there is a sudden sparking that emits from your magical watches and a hologram appears, showing a petit woman with dark hair. her eyes seem to hold a certain amount of mischief and light, and when she speaks, you listen. it's something about her; you are captivated by her presence, and you can't help but give her your attention. ]

Hello, hello, hello~! ♥

[ it's a trill of a voice, light and airy. ]

I know you've all just arrived~♥ but I wanted to introduce myself! To those who haven't met me, my name is Astoria! I know many of you are likely unhappy with being found here, and I understand. But the need is urgent, and dire, and I am in desperate need of your help, as is the universe in which we reside. There is much darkness, in this universe . . . plenty of worlds on the brink of collapse, or at the precipice of something great. It is my job -- our job -- to help where needed. Like superheroes, but a little less flashy!

[ she pauses. ]

No offense to the superheroes. -- but anyway! I want to let you know were we're going to go first.

[ she takes in a D E E P breath!! ]

There is a city, by the name of El Minha. It's beautiful, an oasis in the desert. There are many shops and stalls and the entire city is bustling, but El Minha is facing a difficult path. Transitions of power are hard, you know? And they have a new King, who is . . . probably nice, but the people there are suffering. Crime is at an all-time high, and King Kathashun can only do so much . . . if he's doing anything at all.

[ she brushes a loose piece of hair behind her ear, and astoria smiles a little. it is obvious, by now, that she's definitely bubbly and full of spirit, but she is deadly serious about her mission. ]

I truly believe that we have the ability to help those who need it most, and those people are in desperate need. So we're going to go there, explore, and talk to them! And maybe, just maybe, we can affect some good in this world, and change the tide for the better for these poor people.

[ she pauses. ]

So that's where we're going first! But before that, I'm here to greet you, to support you, and welcome you to my beautiful Temple. Please, please, please make yourselves at home! I'll be here if you have any questions. ♥

[ astoria pauses before lifting up a single finger, as if she's forgotten something important. ]

Oh, and please let me know if you find anything interesting or important or otherwise peculiar in the Temple! The Forest of the Fey is a magical place, and I'm keeping a careful eye on all of you explorers to make sure you don't get too lost, but my dear friends within the forest may like playing with you all, so be respectful of the wildlife! It may fight back. ♥

My specific goal is a fairly broad one -- I want to restore balance to the universe. That's my purpose in this world, and I can't currently do that.

[ astoria is bound to the temple. that's what you all are for, unfortunately. ]

The more worlds that are content, without chaos, the better the universe will be, and the more balanced the universe becomes. Darkness is spreading, and that has a lot of different forms -- I'm not entirely sure what's causing it yet, but we're going to find out together.

[A grandiose purpose indeed! Elizabeth can't quite fault her for wishing to do her job, though she wonders why she can't do it herself. Perhaps she and the gentleman she talked with had been wrong in thinking Astoria a deity of some form. Yet her purpose did sound more than something a human could grasp, didn't it.

The brunette chews on her lower lip a moment, brow furrowed. She wishes to say some very sharp things but in this instance, holding her tongue would be the wiser action. Or at least softening the words she wishes to say. After a bit of deliberation she begins, slowly and seriously:]

I have no desire to criticize your purpose, nor your desire to aid others. Indeed I am more gratified than I have words to express that your aim is one of benevolence and guidance. I do wonder however why you seek assistance from those drawn here without choice. Was our arrival here not your doing, madam? Would it not be kinder given your interest in aiding others to likewise extend that charity toward those you wish to help you?

I did bring you here, because that's all I can manage to do with my magic. It's either allow the universe to continue as it is while being trapped here, or try to bring people to me to attempt to fix it.

[ it's . . . a pretty desperate state of affairs, on astoria's part. she makes no point in hiding it. ]

I was doing my job on my own, before I became stuck here. I don't really know why, or what's been going on, Elizabeth. It's difficult to work out, but I'm doing my best to make do with what I have. And I'm grateful for any help you all can give me, even though I know none of you chose to be here.

[Ah. Now Elizabeth can feel properly poorly for the goddess. After all, beyond drawing her here without a proper introduction or request first, what harm had Astoria done to her? Certainly no more than Mr. Darcy with his words or Wickham with his deceit.

Her expression softens then, her displeasure gone with proper explanation. Perhaps it was a ruse but for now she must trust it as much as truth.]

I beg pardon then if my words caused you distress. I never rest easily until I have the full brunt of any news thoroughly confronted and sorted out, at least as much as I might hope for. Until naught but a few days ago, I had never dreamed of such a place as this or such a person as yourself. Beyond the pages of a book, of course.

[ ah, yes. elizabeth is from an old world without magic . . . ]

-- well! If it's any consolation, I haven't had this many people in my home since . . . ever, so this is a new experience for me too. We can learn together from it. And you definitely didn't hurt my feelings or cause me any distress, Elizabeth -- I promise.

[Or at the very least it is very well-hidden magic.]

Then you certainly have your hands full playing hostess to such a large crowd. Though I cannot say I am good at more practical things, I am quite happy to avail myself to a good hostess. And I do hope we work well together in the future.

[ brightly, enchanted by elizabeth's demeanor. what a polite lady. ]

What do you hope to see, on your adventures, Elizabeth? What would you want to see more than anything else in the world?

[Her eyes widen a touch in surprise. She's momentarily mystified by the question.]

I confess I have never entertained the idea, madam. Travel to foreign countries was quite unlikely to happy to me, lest I married very well or took a notion to see myself off to the Colonies.

[ oh, dear. ]

Well -- you don't need to do any of that, in order to travel, here. I can take you to places of your wildest imaginations without having to rely on anyone else to do it for you.

[ forget mr darcy elizabeth ASTORIA CAN TAKE YOU TO AMERICA ]

[That 10,000 a year has nothin' on Astoria.]

It would seem so. I am quite astonished! You have me very curious to see what places you might have in mind for the future.

Well, it's less what I have in mind and more what's necessary, but ... curiosity is good!

I'll try my best to keep you all as informed as possible, before I send you anywhere.
