[ there is a sudden sparking that emits from your magical watches and a hologram appears, showing a petit woman with dark hair. her eyes seem to hold a certain amount of mischief and light, and when she speaks, you listen. it's something about her; you are captivated by her presence, and you can't help but give her your attention. ]

Hello, hello, hello~! ♥

[ it's a trill of a voice, light and airy. ]

I know you've all just arrived~♥ but I wanted to introduce myself! To those who haven't met me, my name is Astoria! I know many of you are likely unhappy with being found here, and I understand. But the need is urgent, and dire, and I am in desperate need of your help, as is the universe in which we reside. There is much darkness, in this universe . . . plenty of worlds on the brink of collapse, or at the precipice of something great. It is my job -- our job -- to help where needed. Like superheroes, but a little less flashy!

[ she pauses. ]

No offense to the superheroes. -- but anyway! I want to let you know were we're going to go first.

[ she takes in a D E E P breath!! ]

There is a city, by the name of El Minha. It's beautiful, an oasis in the desert. There are many shops and stalls and the entire city is bustling, but El Minha is facing a difficult path. Transitions of power are hard, you know? And they have a new King, who is . . . probably nice, but the people there are suffering. Crime is at an all-time high, and King Kathashun can only do so much . . . if he's doing anything at all.

[ she brushes a loose piece of hair behind her ear, and astoria smiles a little. it is obvious, by now, that she's definitely bubbly and full of spirit, but she is deadly serious about her mission. ]

I truly believe that we have the ability to help those who need it most, and those people are in desperate need. So we're going to go there, explore, and talk to them! And maybe, just maybe, we can affect some good in this world, and change the tide for the better for these poor people.

[ she pauses. ]

So that's where we're going first! But before that, I'm here to greet you, to support you, and welcome you to my beautiful Temple. Please, please, please make yourselves at home! I'll be here if you have any questions. ♥

[ astoria pauses before lifting up a single finger, as if she's forgotten something important. ]

Oh, and please let me know if you find anything interesting or important or otherwise peculiar in the Temple! The Forest of the Fey is a magical place, and I'm keeping a careful eye on all of you explorers to make sure you don't get too lost, but my dear friends within the forest may like playing with you all, so be respectful of the wildlife! It may fight back. ♥

Yeah, Lady Astoria! Their full name is a mouthful so Meddy it is. They have questions too but it can- Oof! [ meddy suddenly smooshes themselves up against daylight’s face to get back into view, their finials and flippers wiggling in what seems to be an indignant manner.

meddy is tiny compared to daylight who is currently trying to them push them well out of the way. well. everything is tiny when you’re daylight but that’s for another time. ]

-It can wait! Right! The question! [ better get it out before meddy makes another attempt to join the conversation. ] Sorry if I missed this from the others' messages but um... What are the ground rules and the basics for when we touchdown on a planet we’re helping? Like- How long will we be there and what we can and can’t do when visiting and stuff like that.

[ that’s actually a lot of questions in a question, day. ]

[ astoria doesn't seem to mind meddy's antics, laughing a bit at the tiny robot. but at daylight's questions, she quickly clears her throat, to become (slightly) more serious. ]

Whatever you wish to do is entirely up to you! I do know that El Minha frowns upon using magic to hurt people and cheat, but who doesn't? And you will be there for a few weeks, but I will promptly bring you back to the Temple should anything really awful happen -- which isn't likely! Just a disclaimer, I think.

[ um.

that didn’t really make him feel confident - if only for poor meddy’s sake because he has a feeling it’ll be up to his drone if something happens to him - but he keeps to himself right now. ]

Okay, Lady Astoria! I trust you on this.

[ because he’s here and she needs help with el minha and why not help when he can?

daylight startles when he feels something whump his helm and looks to his side. meddy is back on screen and somehow looks annoyed for a robot who doesn't really have a face.

ack. he knows when to call it quits. ]

Alright alright alright- Lady Astoria, can Meddy ask a question or two? They’re- [ another whap to his helm. too slow for meddy's taste. ] -really persistent on it. I'll translate them for you if you're up for it.

[ she is immediately delighted, and the hologram of astoria leans closer, to peer at meddy, curious. ]

Oh, I would love that! What type of questions does Meddy have for me? I'll answer them to the best of my ability and to their greatest satisfaction.

[ there’s a pause on daylight’s end while he listens to meddy’s beeps and boops. his expression soon goes from thoughtful to scandalised before meddy finishes 'speaking.' ]

[ meddy somehow huffs - despite the fact they need no air - and lets out another string of noises that seem to satisfy daylight. ]

Close enough.

Umm… They’re wondering if you're sure you... ummm... you can handle the responsibility of the others you brought for what you want to do. [ daylight raises his hands up, waving them back and forth. he's just the translator. ] I guess they’re worried about you and the others since this is a pretty big thing you want to do.

[ meddy beeps! at daylight for that for some reason. it certainly didn't sound impress. ]

[ what a sweet robot. ]

Well -- I'm very old, and I've done this on my own for a very long time, so I suppose I'm as okay as I ever have been! The Temple and the Forest not cooperating with me are a little concerning, but I feel okay? I don't feel sick or anything like that.

[ … oh.

daylight looks sympathetic now while meddy quietly catalogues the answer for a quick and private review, no doubt picking at words and locations it doesn't understand. meanwhile the galateion can’t imagine doing something big as this all by himself. just going out on solo missions was kind of overwhelming for him and he still had the knowledge of backup and this command hub on the lornful light. ]

How old is old?

[ realising that maybe that’s pretty rude to ask a lady when you've just met them, daylight quickly blurts out in an attempt to do damage control: ] I’m-! I’m hundred and eighteen for what it’s worth. A-And it's good to hear you're not sick or anything. I heard extreme heat can be bad for organics. If you're an organic, of course.

[ d a y. ]

Ohhhh, I think I'm older than a hundred and eighteen seasons.

[ how much older, astoria isn't sure. time is not her purview, at all. ]

And I don't mind heat or cold or anything like that, but it does get boring here by myself.

Wow! You're really pretty for someone older than me.

he said that aloud, didn't he? ]

[ ummmmmm. ]

Ummmmmmmmm-! I should go now. Meddy is calling for me and it sounds super important. [ meddy, right next to daylight, looks at their flustered charge with what could only be described as a flat look though they have no real face to speak of. either they're disappointed with daylight's blurted out words or they're unimpressed by his inability to make up a good lie on the spot.
