[ there is a sudden sparking that emits from your magical watches and a hologram appears, showing a petit woman with dark hair. her eyes seem to hold a certain amount of mischief and light, and when she speaks, you listen. it's something about her; you are captivated by her presence, and you can't help but give her your attention. ]

Hello, hello, hello~! ♥

[ it's a trill of a voice, light and airy. ]

I know you've all just arrived~♥ but I wanted to introduce myself! To those who haven't met me, my name is Astoria! I know many of you are likely unhappy with being found here, and I understand. But the need is urgent, and dire, and I am in desperate need of your help, as is the universe in which we reside. There is much darkness, in this universe . . . plenty of worlds on the brink of collapse, or at the precipice of something great. It is my job -- our job -- to help where needed. Like superheroes, but a little less flashy!

[ she pauses. ]

No offense to the superheroes. -- but anyway! I want to let you know were we're going to go first.

[ she takes in a D E E P breath!! ]

There is a city, by the name of El Minha. It's beautiful, an oasis in the desert. There are many shops and stalls and the entire city is bustling, but El Minha is facing a difficult path. Transitions of power are hard, you know? And they have a new King, who is . . . probably nice, but the people there are suffering. Crime is at an all-time high, and King Kathashun can only do so much . . . if he's doing anything at all.

[ she brushes a loose piece of hair behind her ear, and astoria smiles a little. it is obvious, by now, that she's definitely bubbly and full of spirit, but she is deadly serious about her mission. ]

I truly believe that we have the ability to help those who need it most, and those people are in desperate need. So we're going to go there, explore, and talk to them! And maybe, just maybe, we can affect some good in this world, and change the tide for the better for these poor people.

[ she pauses. ]

So that's where we're going first! But before that, I'm here to greet you, to support you, and welcome you to my beautiful Temple. Please, please, please make yourselves at home! I'll be here if you have any questions. ♥

[ astoria pauses before lifting up a single finger, as if she's forgotten something important. ]

Oh, and please let me know if you find anything interesting or important or otherwise peculiar in the Temple! The Forest of the Fey is a magical place, and I'm keeping a careful eye on all of you explorers to make sure you don't get too lost, but my dear friends within the forest may like playing with you all, so be respectful of the wildlife! It may fight back. ♥

[ there's a certain knowing, in astoria's eyes, at valerius. indeed, spells are not perfect, and while she did try to draw upon powerful magical heroes . . . it's imperfect, at best. clearly. but she doesn't seem put off, by his question. ]

I trust that, by and large, the people here will work for the greater good. But I also know that I must earn all of your trust -- and that trust is a two-way street.

[ she was not born yesterday, valerius. she is old, and she knows the risk of what she's about to do. but there is truly no other choice. ]

I am merely going off my own observations, darling. [His smile is bright and sunny, betraying the eventual chill in his eyes when he opens them] Is it so wrong to make a hypothesis or two?

[He could tell she was old, perhaps nearly as much as the beast himself. That, perhaps, alleviated the anger he felt from having his power taken away. In a sense, Valerius was impressed by the witch]

Well said. And while “the greater good” is nothing that interests me, I’ll play along, just in case something that does comes up along the way.

And if you choose to assist, then your help will be appreciated. If you choose not to, then that's your choice. I'm not here to force anyone to do anything they don't want to do; I've already tested the boundaries of my beliefs enough by bringing you all here.

Of course. My sincerest apologies. I’m terrible with names, you see…But don’t worry, I do get better after a few meetings.

[Valerius leans forward, chin resting on his hands. He raises his eyebrows]So I assume you already know mine, then? I have more than one, but whichever you call me matters not.

[Whether it's the beast's name of "Superbios" or his human mask's name of "Valerius", he'd answer regardless. This being was clearly powerful, and he had long since learned to at least manage some semblance of respect in return. This was very easy to do when he’s stripped of his own power.]

I will do what I can to assist. It is not normally what I do, but as I’m bound to this smaller, fleshier prison, I hardly have a choice, despite what you claim. There isn't much else to do is there?

[ indeed, she is old and powerful, but is clearly in need of help. otherwise all of these people wouldn't be here. so it's for this reason that she continues. ]

The Temple is endless, or can feel that way. There's no shortage of exploration that could be done, but I wouldn't wander the Forest alone.

[It was rare that anyone approached Valerius for help without him having a hand offer it first. Perhaps that was another aspect of why he was interested in sticking around the circle. He nods slowly and looks at his nails.]

I have no intention of doing so. While I may have my intuition as a beast, without my powers, I’m still very much vulnerable. The empathy is interesting, at least. It’s the most human I’ve ever felt in this shell...I think I may just dabble in poking at the feelings of others with it for a while.

As I make use of your facilities, of course. [He grins toothily. Despite his disguise, Valerius is very much an animalistic fiend at heart.]

You'll not hurt anyone here, will you.

[ it doesn't seem to be a question, or even a suggestion. it's something of an order, but astoria doesn't seem to be all that worried over valerius. at least, not outwardly. ]

Certainly not, dear Astoria! [He looks scandalized at the very thought--or perhaps he’s faking--a hand on his chest and his eyebrows raised. For a moment after, he looks ponderous]

Physically or emotionally, what with the empathy, and all. There is nothing for me to gain by harming others, in either case. Originally, I was an observer for my other half, a god of life. Here, I will do my best to remain in that role...that is unless you want trouble stirred up; in that case, I will gladly comply.

[He's flexible like that]
